Greenville, NC – This year’s Greenville Choral Society Gala, is entitled “La’mour: Songs of Love” and, as you may have guessed, features love songs. It is a great collection of well-set popular songs, including “Blue Skies,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Embraceable You,” “My Funny Valentine,” and more. Joining the Concert Choir for the concert will be a jazz quartet from ECU. Please join us at The Holiday Inn on SW Greenville Boulevard, Saturday, February 18th, starting at 6:30 PM.
For the GSC Concert Choir’s Spring Concert, the centerpiece will be Michael Haydn’s Requiem in C Minor. Despite being the younger brother to Franz Joseph, Michael was no less a composer. In fact, he composed as much, if not more, music for the church than his more famous brother. This is a very compelling work because many believe that it was the work that inspired Mozart to write a requiem of his own.
The Spring Concert will also feature songs of prayer including Eliza Gilkyson’s “Requiem,” written in the wake of the tsunami that struck Asia in 2004 and Peteris Vasks’ lovely setting of a Mother Theresa text, “The Fruit of Silence.”
Be sure to mark your calendar join The Greenville Choral Society Concert Choir for our Gala Fundraiser on February 18th and our Spring Concert Sunday, April 30, 7:00 PM at The Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville.
